The Nuclear Waste Policy Act as amended (NWPA), provides for the Affected Units of Local Government (AULG) within the vicinity of Yucca Mountain certain rights of participation.  These rights include oversight and monitoring of DOE activities related to the Yucca Mountain Project. 

NWRPO has conducted a variety of technical and programmatic oversight activities to ensure that the County's rights and interests are represented to DOE, regulatory agencies, and oversight boards.  The NWRPO repository oversight program is comprised of five  program elements, which include:
